Bridge Cycles opened in December 2001 and is located
in an early 19th century building adjacent to the historic Monnow
Bridge at the lower end of Monmouth town centre. The shop, which
is open six days a week, specialises in offering a range of quality
bicycles produced by primarily British manufacturers, and caters
for all members of the family. The owner, Glynn Davies, an ex-racing
cyclist and Life-member of the Cycle Engineer’s Institute with an
Honours Degree in Design, has been repairing bicycles for over forty
years, during which time he has been Chairman of two cycle clubs,
and Secretary of a third.
The Bicycle Range
Around sixty cycles are permanently on display,
ranging from small children’s bikes with stabilisers, to adult
machines in a variety of styles.
The shop is an authorised dealer for Bronx, Falcon, Dawes and Raleigh,
with their associated brands of Claud Butler and Diamondback. Custom
buillding is a speciality, particularly on racing bikes, where
Tifosi and Cinelli frames are used. More details >>>
Parts and
Accessories
Parts and accessories form an important aspect of the
business as the shop is located on two of the recognised routes
from Lands End to John O’Groats. It is not unusual
for riders to require urgent assistance in terms of repairs
or additional clothing. Products are selected for their quality
and durability rather than by brand name or price, even at
the lower end of the market, and there is normally a selection
from two or three manufacturers for each type of product
stocked. More details >>>
The workshop covers an area of 140 sq feet, large enough for
three bikes to be worked on, and is equipped with a comprehensive
range of specialist tools.
Wheel building is regularly undertaken and many otherwise obsolete
wheel and hub parts are available to order.
